Do you have plans yet for this summer? Have you thought about spending 8.5 weeks in Washington, DC completing a media related internship and earning credit from George Mason University?
The application deadline for the summer 2013 Institute on Political Journalism in Washington, DC has been extended to March 26. It’s not too late to apply – there are many excitinginternship opportunities available and generous scholarship funding to be awarded.
Spend your summer gaining real-world experience that will help set you apart when it comes time to find your first job after graduation.  Students in IPJ are placed with newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations, news services, as well as communication and PR firms. Here are some examples of intern projects that you could work on this summer:
·         Create a media strategy for a client at a PR firm.
·         Attend a strategy meeting with coalition groups advocating for clean energy policies.
·         Make media pitch calls on behalf of a client who is promoting her latest book.
·         Serve as call screener for a radio talk show.
·         Attend hearings on Capitol Hill.
·         Research current legislation on Capitol Hill for a client.
·         Edit video and audio sound bites for an online news site.
·         Use your social media skills to promote a clients website.
In addition to an internship and classes, our program provides housing in furnished apartments in downtown DC, planned social activities, professional development seminars, and numerous opportunities for networking.
This summer’s deadline has been extended to March 26, 2013 with generous scholarship funding still available. I am a communication student at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I am a part of our student run agency, I~Comm, and I love it. I hope when I graduate my career will be similar to the work I am doing now, but better. I would love to work for an international agency one day, and hope to work on a campaign for a company who focuses on international development. I believe that as human beings we have the responsibility to help each other.
